The Happiest Food on Earth

I’ve always loved all things Disney. Being in such close proximity to Disneyland has been a blessing (for my happiness) and a curse (for my wallet). Throughout college I had an annual pass and I definitely got my money’s worth. Since graduation my visits have been far less frequent, but I have a bevy of knowledge I’ll share with you over the next few posts. My first topic is one of my biggest priorities when visiting the parks: food. Here are a few highlights from the different dining styles in the park.

So many good things on one plate make a great thing

Quick Service: On Sunday we ditched the Super Bowl so I could cash in on my Christmas present from the boy, a trip to Disneyland. I was very excited to try something I’ve never had before, the bacon macaroni and cheese hot dog at the Coca-Cola Refreshment Corner on Main Street. Yum, it’s as delicious and messy as it looks—you will need a fork and knife.

A sweet and savory delicacy

Table Service: The majority of my Disneyland visits require lunch at Café Orleans in New Orleans Square. As a southerner, frying food only makes it better. I’ve always been a fan of Monte Cristo sandwiches and Disney does them well. Plus they have great Pommes Frites and Mickey-shaped Beignets for dessert.

Snack Carts: I’m a sucker for Mickey-shaped food. I used to always go for the Mickey-shaped pretzels throughout the park, but then I discovered the cream cheese filled pretzels. They may not be Mickey-shaped but they’re delicious! They’re only available at certain carts throughout Disneyland and there are a few in Disney California Adventure. The turkey legs are also a Disneyland classic and you’ll smell them before you see them. If you’ve had too much sugar and want a savory treat you need to try one.

My favorite snacks: Last but not least, there are two treats I always make room for. The Dole Pineapple Whip at the Tiki Juice Bar at the entrance to Adventure Land is the most refreshing snack if you’re visiting in warmer weather. I also like to get Minnie’s Bake Shop cookies at the Pooh Corner in Critter Country where they aren’t prepackaged. They are the perfect cookies, not too crunchy or too soft and the perfect ratio of dough to chocolate.
