I don’t want to be that girl, but busy doesn’t even begin to describe the past month. Between hosting out-of-town guests, traveling for work, attending weddings and birthday parties all in addition to the regular demands of daily life, I’m exhausted. This is not the kind of girl I am and not the kind of blog I run, and for my hiatus, I apologize.
The last stop on my month-long tour of busyness was unexpected. This past weekend I celebrated a friend’s birthday in the Santa Ynez Valley. It just so happened that her birthday fell on the weekend of Solvang’s Danish Days, an annual celebration of Danish heritage in the small Santa Ynez town. Although we were unable to immerse ourselves in the culture, we did get a taste of California’s #1 Danish Festival. Rest assured, the boy and I will be attending next year.
The town’s architecture takes the festival’s authenticity to the next level. Between the concerts, parades, dances, eating contests, food, and costumes, it is easy to get wrapped up in the Disney-esque charm of the occasion.
Even without the excitement of the event, there are many shops and restaurants for a quiet weekend trip in an unusual corner of Southern California.
